Does the scan 3 w/o noise look like it needs cleaning? I've never cleaned it since I bought it so I'd love good cleaning done. It's the damage I created on the neg myself. The vertical lines are actually from squeegeeing it too hard. How do it check that? I think I tried cropping a bit more but I'll try even more to see if that makes a difference. what scanning resolution are you using? How much gain are you using? I notice in scan 2 that you are scanning right up to the edge of the film, try cropping in a little to avoid Vuescan using the dark edge to set the scan exposure.I also thought the performance envelope was being pushed too far. More information would be needed to help diagnose the problem - e.g. I have not seen a real difference between them and usually leave. The upper is the raw and the lower is the corrected- they should look similar. The 'corrected' preview image should be the same as the raw. For black and white negatives, there are only presets for the three Tmax Films (there are also settings for C-41 BW films). scan is output to the screen and if you select Color tab Color balance None then VueScan applies the Color balance (in this case None). Film Type: Vuescan has presets for a number of color films, and for color these settings do make a difference. The diagonal lines look like a scanner artifact but the grain is simply the result of pushing the performance envelope a little too far. Were scanning in greyscale, so choose Gray. You also have vertical lines on the first scan which means that your scanner needs cleaned, particularly the calibration strip. Depending on what you want to do with your documents and images, you may need to scan them at different resolutions.
